Dragon Shield by Dianne L Gardner

cover“Integrity isn’t something you do, it’s who you are,” Aren tells the confused Ian in  The Dragon Shield.

Now a young man, Ian returns to the magical Realm to fight against the tyranny that has befallen his friends. But the Realm is a different place, the forest is dying, the Kaemperns have lost the shield that protected them from the dragon, and Ian has a hard time proving his allegiance when trouble follows him through the portal. His struggle to do right buries him in confusion, and he must fight his own will to prove his integrity. The Ian’s Realm Saga is filled with sorcery, wizards, magic, and fantasy adventure, great for young readers and the entire family.

Iansbow1An Excerpt:

What do you know about your sister’s shield?” Ian shut down the computer.

“What do you mean?”

“She says it’s magic. What do you know about that?”

“You mean the shield she just made, her dragon shield? I don’t know. She says she got the idea from her friends.” Brad shrugged.

“School friends?” Ian spoke softly, hoping to sound casual, but his inquiry was anything but random.

“Nah,” Brad laughed. “I don’t think so. I think they’re imaginary. She’s kind of mental.”

“Imaginary?” Ian asked. “How’s that?”

“Well, I don’t know. Maybe they’re really there. Sometimes I hear voices outside, like a bunch of girls out in her fort, but I never see anyone except Elisa. I can never figure it out,” he shook his head. “Unless she’s a ventriloquist of some sort. You know kids these days. I know she talks to herself.”

Ian didn’t say anything but it struck a harmonious chord in the symphony of his thoughts. Elisa does know the Kaempern children. They taught her how to make a magical shield just like theirs.  Perhaps they wanted a spare shield here for safekeeping because of the war.

With a shove of his knees, the desk chair rolled back slightly as Ian rose and walked to the kitchen to refill his coffee cup.

“Why?” Brad asked.

Ian cringed; he probably shouldn’t have said anything.  The boy was too inquisitive.

“Why do you want to know about her shield? Do you think it’s magic?”

Ian laughed quietly, “I have no way of knowing something like that.”

Brad’s eyes lit up. “You believe in magic though, don’t you? You just admitted it. Heck, I bet you more than believe in magic. You practice it, don’tyou? Going into another world, and all.” He jumped up. “Wow. Do you think her magic shield has something to do with the Realm?”

Series I Love – The Selection Series by Kiera Cass

I love this series. I just finished THE ONE and have a huge book hangover. I can’t stop putting all the pieces together, seeing how America, Aspen, and Maxon got to where they ended up. As a writer, I find myself analyzing books this way now. This series is no exception to my wandering and wondering mind. I won’t spoil anything, but I will say it had a very fitting ending.

Everything about this series is beautiful. Reading this series, the idea that one man decides, after the fall of America, to be King of the new world emerging makes me wonder if that is a possibility some day. If so, I’d like to be princess. ;)

But seriously, besides the social commentary, it is a beautiful fairy tale (even though at the end, America says it is more than just a fairy tale). If you’re looking for your next romantic read, this is a perfect series. :)

Happy Reading!

Welcome to my new home!

I suppose this should have been my first post on my “new” site, but I had some other things to catch up on first.

So what happened, you ask? Why the new site? It’s simple: I tried to put something on my old site and crashed the site, thus killing it. Apparently, my hosting service could not recall the old site (or at least, it wasn’t offered and I didn’t know enough to ask) so I had to start from scratch and build a new one. I’m not happy with myself, but I’m also looking at it as a way to reinvent my image a bit. So there is that. :)

So what’s new? You may notice the mailing list/newsletter subscription to the right. I won’t send out anything that often, but if you would like to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in my writing world (ie, with Ronnie and Gavin), feel free to sign up. Also, down the line, I hope to be able to do special giveaways for my newsletter subscribers to say Thank You for keeping up with me. :)

School hallwayThat’s really the only new thing. Or did you mean books? ;) The first two Spiral Defenders books are available now, Into the Spiral, and The Spiral Revealed The third book in the series, Embrace the Spiral, will be out in July (I’m thinking the Friday after the Fourth). And a short story, Christmas Around the Spiral, will be coming to you as soon as I get a cover, edit, and format it. :) The story isn’t necessary to read… unless you love Gavin and Ronnie as much as I do and need to read everything you can about them. ;)

Also, if you haven’t “liked” me on Facebook yet, you can do that from here. Every Wednesday, I run a two-day contest, WOULD YOU RATHER WEDNESDAY, for a signed swag pack. Sometimes I add other goodies in there as well. (Such as a handmade book thong one winner recently won.) I’m also trying to find ways to get my page seen more, so any help/advice there would be greatly appreciated!

So that’s all for now. Just wanted to welcome you to my “new” site. I hope you enjoyed your visit!

Title: 21 Days
Series: Time for Love #2
Author: Bethany Lopez
Summary: Sasha and TJ are no strangers to enjoying sex with no strings attached, so when they decide to act on their mutual attraction, there should be no reason why they can’t apply that same philosophy to each other.

Money has never been an issue for Sasha, which made proving herself as a real estate dynamo a personal challenge she was determined to conquer. Raised in a gilded world masking neglect and disappointment, she learned not to depend on anyone, especially when it comes to love and relationships. Men are great for companionship, but she isn’t looking for anything serious.

Used to going without, TJ has worked hard to be able to support himself. When he loses his job and his home in one fell swoop, he faces relying on others for the first time in his adult life. Then Sasha steps in, offering him a place to stay until he’s back on his feet. He grudgingly agrees, but vows to be out of her guest room within 21 days.

They’ll discover that a lot can change in 21 days, especially when they decide to give the idea of “friends with benefits” a try. As each day passes, Sasha and TJ become closer than they’ve ever been. Will they be able to go back to being just friends when their days together are up, or will they allow their personal hang-ups to get in the way of what they really cherish most?
